Founded in 1997, Voyager Industries is a privately held company located in Brandon, MN. Voyager manufactures aluminum fish houses, trailers, docks, as well as decking used in the marine industry. Voyager also provides aluminum fabrication and distribution services. Voyager, growing at a strong pace, was looking to ensure that it continued to uphold its high standards for quality- and wanted to document its processes and procedures so that it could have proper controls in place to keep pace with the business.
Voyager engaged Enterprise Minnesota ISO expert Kent Myhrman, who showed them how ISO 9001 can help the company maintain its quality standards and control its processes, and drive performance across the business. To meet ISO’s rigorous certification requirements, Myhrman worked with Voyager’s management team to develop a project plan, set up their management review process, and helped form a team of key leaders from quality control, engineering, accounting, sales, and manufacturing to identify and create essential procedures and documents as well as creating their new quality manual. These actions served to further define the best practices of the company, how these best practices supported key company processes, and how these processes are managed to sustain, improve and grow the company.
ISO quality standards dictate that a company demonstrates the effective performance of its management review process, which meant an in-depth auditing of Voyager’s operations. Myhrman met with Voyager’s management team every other week for four months to review findings of audits on their operations, and implement corrective actions. By the end of the project, Voyager was well-positioned to easily pass its final registration audit and became ISO 9001:2008 certified.
Voyager implemented the ISO management system and earned its ISO 9001:2008 certification. As a result, Voyager accomplished an increase in employee engagement in its continuous improvement efforts and reduced training time for new and existing employees. In total, over the next three years Voyager projects to:
The team at Enterprise Minnesota were great to work with. They brought new angles and different experience to not only help us with ISO certification but helped us in many other areas of our business. It was a very smooth and useful experience.
