Minneapolis (November 10, 2017) - Enterprise Minnesota President & CEO, Bob Kill, Minnesota State Senator Jeremy Miller (R-28) and Minnesota State Representative Gene Pelowski (DFL-28A) recently visited Winona, Minnesota-based Midwest Metal Products (MMP) to tour the facility and see firsthand many recent company improvements.

MMP is a foundry that casts a variety of different types of steel and iron, as well as custom finish levels for a variety of industries including mining, recreational vehicle, and heavy manufacturing. The company employs 45 people at its Winona plant, and in a few weeks it will become the first fully solar-powered foundry in North America. MMP has received Growth Acceleration Program (GAP) investments to work with Enterprise Minnesota to become more operationally efficient and to bolster its growth strategies.

“The Growth Acceleration Program has helped manufacturers like Midwest Metal Products all across the state and especially in Greater Minnesota,” said Bob Kill, president & CEO of Enterprise Minnesota. “GAP provides manufacturers the opportunity to take advantage of services that can help them grow their business, strengthen their operations and make them more competitive in the global economy.”

GAP is a direct state investment program aimed at helping manufacturing companies of 250 or fewer full-time employees to access business improvement services. Eligible companies must have a business plan for improvements and demonstrate an economic need for GAP. All companies awarded GAP resources must match at least $1 for every $1 of GAP investment. First authorized by the Legislature in 2007, GAP has helped over 300 Minnesota manufacturers and continues to receive bipartisan support for its valuable role in job creation and job retention in Minnesota’s manufacturing industry.

“MMP has welcomed the help provided by the Growth Acceleration Program in accelerating the success of our business,” said Joe Plunger, owner and CEO of MMP. “These matching grants have enabled us to work with Enterprise Minnesota, which in turn has worked with us to create focused strategies to help us achieve our growth goals and find ways to continuously improve our operations.”
